Marionette Lines and Nasolabial Folds

What are Nasolabial folds?

Nasolabial folds are those lines between the corners of the nose and the mouth - a parenthesis if you will. These form due to bone loss and bone reabsorption of the maxillary bones and volume loss of the fat pads of the cheeks - which start to sag, along with skin laxity.

A high density filler can be used to add to the bone at the area of loss at the corner of the nose, reducing the depth of the shadows in this area, and filler placed to support the sagging skin which in turn minimises the lines by adding lost volume.

What are Marionette lines?

Marionette lines are formed from the mouth downward from the corners of  the mouth to towards the jaw, and so named after the articulation of the puppet (marionette) mouth. This is caused by volume loss as well as a downward pull of the DAO muscle which causes the downturned mouth, making one look sad. These lines can be filled and supported with dermal filler, minimising the lines and botulinum toxin A can be used to release the downward pull of the DAO's, allowing the corners of the mouth to lift, creating a more pleasant appearance.
